Please can anyone help about the location of the Towland of Aghnenirrisk referred to in the following deed.
Deed 36651. Dated 17/11/1722 registered 22/1/1727
William Morris of Moneglass, Co. Antrim, leases half the townlands of Cohannon and Aghnenirrisk to Abraham Dawson of Tullnamore, Gent., for 41 years from 1/11/1722 for £10/annum plus 13/4 quit rent and £1/16/8 chief rent to Capt. James Stewart
Cohannon, Co. Tyrone is located near Abraham's homestead. Tullnamore is often referred to as Tamnamore, Parish of Killyman. Aghnenirrisk is elsewhere referred to as Agenhirrick or similar.
Thanks,
Keith Dawson.

Hi Keith,
There's no townland by this name listed in the townlands of Ireland databases online. Is it possible to post the deed so we might see the handwriting?

Hi Patricia,
Thanks for your reply. I couldn’t find a townland of that name either, nor looking around the Cohannon area could I see one even approaching that name on the Griffiths map. I have tried to upload an image of part of the text, which comes from the Deed Register. However, something is causing it to abort. It may have a non-copying device built in. I’ll try again. Regards,

Keith,
The memorial makes it clear that Aghnenerrisk is a half townland somewhere in the parish of Killyman. There’s nowhere of that name in use today so it looks to be one that’s fallen by the wayside, as many did, especially post Griffiths. It may have been a local name for part of a townland (eg a half townland as the memorial says) that might still appear on older maps but not in the current ones.
I know you have searched the Griffiths maps (which date to around 1870). You could try searching older maps of Killyman on the PRONI site to see if you can spot it. Otherwise its exact location may remain a mystery. It is not listed on the Placenames NI site.
