Traveller families

My grandfather was a (settled?) traveller in Ballymote. His family name was Noone and his mother's family were Ward from Roscommon.

  • Hi,

could you give a bit more detail please so that we might be able to help i.e. first names, address, date of birth and or marriage.

Have you found them in the 1901 or 1911 census ?

  • Hi

My grandfather was Patrick Noone born 26 Feb 1911 in Ballymote. His siblings included Tomy, Bridget, Ann, Martin, John, Batty, MaryEllen, Winnie and a half brother Oliver O'Connor.
His father was Bartholomew Noone born 1871. His father was thought to be Patrick Noone.
My grandfather Patrick's mother was Ann Ward born about 1879 in Roscommon and her father was Charles Ward.
Patrick and his siblings spent part of their childhood years in the convent or with the brothers after their father died. Most later settled in England and one probably in Scotland.
I do have the census from 1911 but he's wrongly noted as 2 years instead of 2 months.
