Looking for any clues to my Whelan family. Pierce Whelan & Isabella Harrington had several children born in Kilworth, including my gt gt grandmother Mary (b. 1833). Mary married Roderick Donohue, and they had three children (Bridget, James & Thomas), before leaving for Western Australia in 1862 per the "York". Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Based on Roots Ireland records there were at least seven children: James 1832 Mary 1833 Ellen 1834 Margaret 1837 Judith 1839 Bridget 1843 Pierce 1847 None of the baptismal records showed a townland. I also looked for Pierce Whelan in the 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilworh civil parish and he was not listed.

I found a transcription of  a Mary Whelan marriage to a Patrick Donohue in February 1857 in Kilworth. I assume this is the marriage you mentioned even though the groom's name was different? Also located three baptismal records for children Bridget 1858 James 1859 Thomas 1861. Those records show the father as Roderick or Rodney. The 1852 Griffiths showed a James Donohoe in Whitebog townland who I presume was the father of Roderick. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/kilworth.htm   Possibly the Whelans were from the same townland.
