Hi from New Zealand. I'm wondering if someone can tell me or help me to find wills of family members. Also any other information, although I have found the family on the 1901 and 1911 censuses. The first one is my grandmother's sister. Myra Gwendoline Daphne Reynolds was born in Newtonards on 31 May 1911. She married Gerald Cant Pinney (possibly in Cambridge?) not sure when. She died 10 December 1990 in Donaghadee. I also can't find her marriage info and was trying to work out how she met someone from England. Thanks in advance. Parents were Rose Ada Coward of Yorkshire and Thomas Reynolds of Cornaroy, Carrick on Shannon, Leitrim.

  • Dragonfly,

If Myra left a will in Northern Ireland, then it should be in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. The records post 1970 are not on-line and a manual search of the paper records in PRONI is required. If she had assets in England, then a copy is sometimes held there too. However in this case I have searched the English Probate records and don’t see an entry for her. (I do see one for Gerald Pinney, 42 Cheltondale Rd, Solihull, Birmingham died  23.9.1990. Probate granted Birmingham 1.11.1990. You can order a copy of that from the UK Gov Wills site).

You can ask PRONI to search for a will for Myra. They will copy it for a fee. Or you might find it quicker and cheaper to employ a local researcher to get it for you. Researchers in the PRONI area: http://sgni.net

Can’t help explain how this couple met but save to say that folk have always gone back and forth between Ireland and England for work and study (and still do), and that has led to many thousands of marriages over the years. The second World War also had folk moving around all over the place too (though that might be a bit late for your couple).

Which other wills are you looking for?
