lollipops:
There is no official townland called Brownsgove in Co. Galway. There is a Brownsville and a Barnwellsgrove. Possibly Brownsgrove is a local place name. I did check the subscription site Roots Ireland and there were 42 William Kelly baptismal records in Co. Galway from 1832-1842. Also, a good number of Galway RC parishes do not have records back to 1837.
Are you aware of any siblings?
Have you considered DNA testing?

Thank you, Roger. Yes, he did have siblings....John and James, I believe. Brownsgrove is just north of Tuam so perhaps I should have mentioned Tuam. His mother's name may have been Julia Flynn!
I do appreciate your help.

Marie:
The only William Kelly baptismal record with mother with maiden name of Flynn that I located was in Rahoon RC parish. The baptismal date was October 3 1830 Father was John Kelly and mother was Mary Flynn. Probably not the correct record.
However, there were a number of baptismal records in Tuam father William Kelly and mother Julia Flynn. There were seven records but no William. James 1814 Jeremiah 1820 Sarah 1821 Elizabeth 1823 John 1824 Mary 1825 John 1828
Could this be the correct family?

Wow, this is interesting, Roger. Now could you tell me if this William Kelly who married Julia Flynn died on 5 April 1882 also re John Kelly born 1828 .....did he marry Honor Kennedy.
Another query...John Kelly..born 1824....did he pass away. I understand if a child passed away, parents often called a child born after that event the same name as deceased child.
I have a photo of the Kelly Family headstone which is in Cortoon Cemetery north of Tuam, the first entry being John Kelly, Brownsgrove...who died 20 Oct. 1900 (Aged 72yrs) and at the bottom of the headstone reference is made to William Kelly who died 5April 1882(aged 105yrs).
You may be able to answer a lot of questions re our Irish family that we are so proud of.
Again...really appreciate your help.

Marie:
I searched for an 1882 death record for William Kelly in the Tuam registration district and did not find a record. If you have a copy, please share.
The John Kelly/Honor Kennedy marriage was in March 1846 so a John born 1828 would have been 18 at marriage so possible.
Yes, the 1824 John likely died young.
