I am seeking information about William Quigley, a butcher, who was tried and convicted of vagrancy in Sligo on 15 March 1822. He was sentenced to seven years transportation and transferred to Kilmainham prison in 1823 prior to his departure to Australia.

He may have worked as a provisioner to the Royal Navy. He was originally from Derry and I have no information about how long he had been in Sligo, or even what town he lived in.

I am keen to find any archival records relating to his life and work in Sligo, and prison records around the time of his trial.

    Attached information in relation to William Quigly.

    I have checked for a record of conviction, but have not found any. He was a number of prisoners who are recorded as from "Sligo". I assume you have his Australian Record.

    The National Archives in Dublin may have the detail of the conviction in Sligo.
