Since 2009, we have helped thousands of Irish people discover the history of their families and reconnect with their parish of origin. Our website is dedicated to helping anyone of Irish descent connect with their roots in Ireland. To get the most from our website follow our tips below.
1. Find and Explore your Ancestral County and Parish.
Every civil parish in Ireland has a dedicated page on our website where you can explore the ancestors, buildings, and timelines associated with that particular parish. Check out our video below to find and join your parish and keep in touch with the descents of the same place living in Ireland and all over the world. There are more than 2,500 individual community groups on IrelandXO! You can join any one that you have a connection or interest in, and as many groups as you like.
2. Explore and Contribute to our Ancestor Database
Our members continue to help us build our archive of Irish ancestors. Today there are just over 20,000 ancestor profiles available to browse in our database. You can explore ancestors by county, parish, place of immigration, and even by Family name!
We've had many stories of families connecting via a shared ancestor profile so we encourage anyone with details of their ancestors to share them with fellow members. We encourage all members to continue to document the stories of their ancestors for future generations of the Irish Diaspora.
3. Post and Search our Message Board
The IrelandXO message board contains more than 40,000 message board posts and replies. Every day our volunteers up and down the country and many international volunteers are helping people find our more about their Irish family history. You can search the message board by county and parish and we may already hold the key to connecting you with your ancestors. You can search the entire archives by going to the main IrelandXO page and inserting your key search terms - perhaps a family name or a townland.
