Hazel Mountain Chocolate is a bean-to-bar chocolate factory and cafe in the Burren, Co. Clare and also has a Chocolate Shop & Cacao Brew Bar in Galway city!

Our boutique bean to bar chocolate factory is amongst the smallest and most remote chocolate factories in the world, situated next to our cafe in the Burren hills. Since its conception in 2014, Hazel Mountain chocolate has been making waves on the chocolate scene, with a TV appearance with Nigella Lawson, and a bronze award from the Academy of chocolate. Our process is unique in Ireland and includes roasting the beans, cracking and winnowing, before grinding the cocoa nibs in our stone mills in the traditional method for two days, all before ageing the chocolate for 3 weeks. Due to the open floor plan of our shop and factory, the entire process, including the chocolate kitchen, is viewable by all who pass through our gates. From the smell of the roasted beans through the factory door, to the tasting of Ireland’s finest craft chocolate, our quaint little factory is a unique experience you don’t want to miss.

Tour & Tasting

Meet our chocolate experts, who will show you the wonders of bean to bar chocolate. Discover how a tropical fruit is being changed into one of Europe's finest chocolates. Your 45 minute tour will take you through all the stages of our chocolate making - roasting, cracking, winnowing, stone-grinding and tempering and it will include sampling of chocolate at its various stages & finishing with tasting of some of the best single origin chocolates.

 

Burren Cafe

Come and visit our award winning Cafe. Nestled between the breathtaking Burren hills you can sit inside our cosy converted Irish homestead and enjoy a wide array of exquisite home baked gluten free cakes, a plethora of Ireland’s best hot chocolates, and coffees and teas of all kinds to boot. Our ethos is to cater fine produce for all customers, with dairy free options readily available in hot chocolates and cakes. Our commitment to quality produce and service has been nationally recognised resulting in us being placed in Ireland’s top 10 cafes by the Irish Times. All of our cake recipes come from our wildly successful cookbook "Burren Wild Baker” which was the labour of love of co-founder and internationally esteemed pastry chef Kasha Connolly. Our charming little cafe never fails to impress and is a worthy stop on your trip through the Burren.

We are an 8 minute drive from Kinvara heading towards Ballyvaughan & a 35 minute drive from Galway City. Follow the main coast road out of Kinvara, heading towards the cliffs. We are one turn off the main coast road and are well sign posted.
