Drummaul is a parish in Upper Toome, Antrim with a population of 9,737 inhabitants.

During the revolution of 1688 the parish was frequently the head-quarters of the Earl of Antrim's regiment which marched to the attack of Londonderry and in the disturbances of 1798 the insurgents were driven from Antrim into Randalstown by the king's troops.  Shane's Castle, the property of Earl O'Neill was destroyed by fire in 1816 and has remained in ruins ever since.

In 1832 the church was builton the site of the church which was erected in 1709 at a cost of ᆪ1,800.  In the region of 330 children aer educated there and about 440 attend 7 private schools.

Census

The 1821 & 1851 census returns were almost all destroyed in a fire, the 1861 &1891 census returns were destroyed by the government.  The 1901 & 1911 census returns are available on line free of charge on line on the National Archives of Ireland website.
