To Elwyn: There must be some confusion Elwyn with the names of my relatives buried in the Presbyterian Churchyards in Ahoghill and Ballymena area. My relatives are in sequence Robert Coulter (spouse unknown), William John Coulter (1824 - 1895) m. Mary Jane Mark (daughter of William spouse unknown could have been a McCready or McChordy), Robert Coulter (1850 - 1914) m. Sarah Craig (daughter of James whose spouse may be Elizabeth Hannah McCoy could have been from Gracehill, Gloonan) and William John Coulter m. Isabella Moles (in Belfast) daughter of Isaac John Moles and Mary Crothers daughter of Thomas of Co. Down.
I think I am mixed up with Pat Larmer who was inquiring about her Larmer/Larimar/Lorimer relatives who had also lived in Ahoghill area. Ken Livingstone is related to the Coulters and those relatives ended up in Canada. It was my sister, Eileen Coulter Easby that visited with Ken Livingstone a few years ago while she was staying with Sybill and Freddie Coulter on a vacation to Ireland.
I have just heard from a relative in New Zealand who tells me a Robert Coulter married in Dublin an Elizabeth Phayre daughter of Farmer, John. however he died around 1848 and the widow remarried in 1849 in Dublin. I do not think that is my grgrgrgrandfather. He also references his 3rd grgrandmother was Letitia Phayre (1739-1812) of Kilmore, Co Cavan & Dublin.
As my late Mother was a true traditionalist, I was almost named Olivia instead of Anne (my father's choice, he won on that one) I have to wonder if my grgrgrgrgrandparents were John & Olivia Coulter. My father David had a younger brother named Oliver and sister named Olive who both died as children in Scotland so I understand his reluctance to carry on the name.
I found in the Griffiths evaluations there were both a Robert and John Coulter in Prockles/Procklis area. It may be possible that Robert was a son and that was the John & Olivia Coulter to whom I refer. I did find births of I believe, a William & James registered to them in the area in the late 1700s. They moved to Cavan area then immigrated to Canada first. While they were away, a Reverend Irvine was supposed to be paying their land tenancy rent from money he collected from them but he neglected to pay the landowner leading to a big legal tussle when they returned to the land. It must have gotten sorted out because they still had some lands to farm when they "returned to the land". There are letters in PRONI from overseas Coulters to Martins relating to these concerns.
I understand we still have quite elderly cousins Annie & Sammie living in that area of Ireland. My sister has given me photos which I cherish.
Loved your little bit on the lasting Scottish habits. Keep up the good work.
Kindest regards,
Anne Coulter Holmes.

Dear Anne
I think I am confused too. Did you try posting this message as a reply to someone else and maybe created a new post instead by mistake?
