My great grandfather's name was William Milliken, born Oct 17, 1852 or 1854, in Ireland-not sure if it was in Ahoghill area. He married Annie Irvine, born May 28, possibly 1853 also in Ireland, possibly Ahoghill area. They were married Oct 27, 1876 in Ahoghill. They had two children born in Ireland (probably). Jane born Sept 10, 1877 and William, born Mar 18, 1879 but who died at the age of 3 weeks. William and Annie emigrated to Scotland (between 1879 and 1882) and went to Dumbarton, where they had seven more children (Elizabeth, John, Mary, Sarah, Charles, Annie, Margaret-my grandmother). William died in Dunbarton Apr 8 1910 age 58? and Annie died in Dumbarton Sept 18, 1929 age 76?. William was a shipyard labourer in Scotland.

Williams father was John Milliken and his mother was Jane Rennie. Annie's father was Charles Irvine and her mother was Eliza Graham.

My husband and I will be visiting Ireland during the first part of September, 2013 and I am interested  in any information about William and Annie, and their families,  and possibly any relatives left in Ireland.

The 1876 marriage certificate should have the couple?s townlands (addresses) on it. Do you have that information as it may help trace the families more easily?

What looks like William Milliken?s birth was registered in Ballymena Jan ? Mar 1879, Volume 1, page 136. His death follows there, Apr ? Jun 1879 Vol 1, page 103.  What was probably Jane?s birth was registered in Ballymena in 1877 Volume 11, page 152.Those certificates should also tell you where the couple were living at those dates.

You can order photocopies of these certs for 4 euros each from GRO Roscommon. Quote the reference numbers on the order form. http://www.groireland.ie/

Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church (which should be on the marriage certificate). That?s be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings. Copies of most church records are held in PRONI, Belfast. They are not on-line and you need to go in person to look them up.
