I am looking for information on Samuel Agnew and any family member. I have a 100% match with an heir of Samuel that currently lives in Australia and he thinks his Samuel might be a brother to my gg grandfather John Agnew that was living in the US by at least 1805-06 and was in the War of 1812. Thank you.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Unfortunately, the reality of finding documentation pertaining to births/baptisms/marriages/deaths in Ireland prior to 1800 ? particularly in rural areas ? is that they simply may not exist. Catholic records for Ahogill do not start until c. 1833. You can see what records are available at the Irish Times website here:
As the Church of Ireland was the official church of the country at the time, most records that survive from the period can be found in their registers. For information on Church of Ireland records check the following:
http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
You could also try doing a search for either John or Samuel at https://familysearch.org/ This is a huge online database of genealogical records that have been compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. If you can find record of either of them it may give you some information.
Roots Ireland also has an online database of Church records that you can search here: http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/search.php Please note however, that you have to pay to use this site.
Other websites which you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
The US National Archives: http://www.archives.gov/

Do you have any other information on Samuel and John that you can share? Do you know the name of parents, any other siblings, occupations, religion etc.? Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
