Looking for my great grandfather Bartholomew Malone, son of William Malone and Anna Myles.  Born 1831 Belfast, Antrim Northern Ireland.  I do not know the parish,  He had a brother Patrick Malone born 1828.  Family moved to Lancashire England around Liverpool approx 1832.  Bartholmew grew up in England married 1st wife Catherine Cormen yr unknown,  had 3 living children then around the mid 1860's  after his wife died he jumped onto a ship, stowed away and came to Fall River Massachusetts USA.  He then changed his name to Joseph Regan and ended up in the American Civil war on the Union side. I can not find any Irish records to substantiate his birth or the existence of his parents. I belong to Ancestry.com and I'm not having any luck.  I want to validate his birth and his parents if at all possible.

  • Hi Pam

The only birth/baptism record I could find for Bartholomew Malone 1831 + - 10 years with father William was in co Laois. When the Anna + or Myles was added to the search criteria there were no matches

I then tried for Patrick 1828 + - 10 years with father William and mother Myles (no Anna) & got another match in Laois - 1835

I went through the parishes and found that both baptisms were from Portarlington RC parish

It is strange that they have the same father but only Patrick has Myles for mother

rootsireland charges to view the record which MAY have the mother's name on the Bartholomew record.
