Hi, I'm looking for any info on Samuel McKnight son of David McKnight b.c.1824. I think he married in 1847 to Mary McMeekin in Antrim and had a son David McKnight in 1853 in Down, who married Elizabeth Evans. I'd like to know if Samuel was related to George McKnight\McNeight who was married to Ann McClements, and had a son named William in 1841.
Any info would be great, as I'd like to know if these families are related in some way.
Thanks,
Daryl

Daryl,
Samuel McKnight’s marriage to Mary McMeeken was registered in Newtownabbey on 7.6.1847. That marriage certificate should tell you where the McKnight family were living and their occupations. If you also know their denomination, you may be able to search for Samuel’s baptism (and that of any siblings) in the church baptism records, in PRONI, in Belfast.
George McKnight married before the start of statutory marriage registration (1845). Consequently you won’t find his marriage so easily. You would need to have some idea of where he married and search the church records. However don’t expect too much information from a pre 1845 marriage. Rarely doe sit give parents names. Often all you get is the couples names, their witnesses and the date. Sometimes occupations and townlands but often not.
Baptism records are probably the easiest way of finding whether Samuel had a brother George. That will involve a trip to PRONI.
