  • Hi Ellen

There is a record of the baptism of Joseph McWaters with father William Antrim 1835 on www.rootsireland.ie/

    http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=1&confirmPageView=Y

It costs to view the full record which will have the parish and HOPEFULLY his mother's name.

I went through the parishes and found that it was BALLINDERRY C of I

There is a record of William WATTERS 1797 Antrim but the parish is not Ballinderry

There doesn't seem to be a relevant family tree on ancestry.com

Griffiths Valuation (free onlineZ) 1848 - 64 has no McWatters in Antrim & the Tithe Applotments 1823-37 don't include Antrim.

There are 7 McWatters re3cords in the surname search on PRONI (free online)

    http://applications.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_ProniNames/SearchResults.aspx

There are 27 McWatters in the 1851 Irish Census (free online) all in Antrim and lots more in the 1901 & 1911 censuses

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=1851&surname=McWatters&exact=&firstname=&county19011911=&county1821=&county1831=&county1841=&county1851=&townland=&ded=&age=&sex=&relationToHead=&relig

There are no McWatters in the irish phone book (free online) in Antrim

  • There's 134 McWatters on the Northern Ireland electoral register. They are evidently all ex directory (as most people seem to be these days).

  • I've been researching my husband's geneology and I've just found some missing family!

Here's what I've found so far:

William McWaters and Rose Ann Kelly were the parents of Joseph Mcwaters, born 1835-1840 in Antrim and died 1907 in Beechworth from spinal parlysis.  He married Josephine Jane Storey in 1872 at her father's house.  Her parents were James McArthur Storey and Elisa (Eliza?) Jackson.  They had 11 children, including Rose Hannah Barker (b. 1879 ish), who married David Edward Brown in 1912.  They had 2 daughters Mary and Alice.  Alice died in 1967 and Mary died 2004.  Mary's daughter (my mother in law) is still alive and living on the Sunshine Coast with family still in Victoria as well as queensland.

Hope that helps and perhaps I can find out where you are in this whole lineage :)

  • Ellen,

Joseph McWaters was also my great grandfather. His son, Herbert McWaters, was my maternal grandfather. You're welcome to check out the information on my public tree (Robertson/McWaters) on Ancestry.
