I'm looking for a few different branches in my family tree.

Henry Carson - born in 1801 in County Monaghan, his wife Janet Herbertson born in 1801 in Antrim, his daughter Mary born in 1825 in Antrim.

Mary's husband William Johnston born in 1819 in Antrim, their son Henry Carson Johnston born in 1860 in Antrim. I do know that Henry Carson Johnston was a photographer.

I found a copy of a 1851 census that says it's from Kilconway Barony, Craigs Parish, Craigs Townland and Henry Carson is listed as head (age 50), Jane - wife (age 50), Jane - daughter (age 21), Elizabeth - mother (age 74)

Alexander Glenn Sr. - born in 1813, his wife Jane McFarlane born in 1813, their son William born in 1841. Unfortunately, I don't know where in Ireland that they are from.

Now I'm stuck for tracing back further than this. If anyone has more information (or turns out to be related, which would be awesome!) or can tell me where I could look for more info, that would be great! Thank you!! Laurie

  • Hi Laurie

I searched rootsireland.ie for the births of Henry, Janet & Mary  & the marriage of Henry & Mary without success.

I then tried for William Johnson born 1819 Antrim and got 1 match - William Jonson 1819

I couldn't find Henry' junior's birth but did find the marriage of William Johnson and Mary Carson - 1846 Antrim.

www.rootsireland.ie/ is a pay site so the records will cost but you will get parents' names and the parish of registration.

I searched for the Glenn clan but had no luck - those names sound very Scottish!

  • Thank you for checking. I've found some information through Ancestry but have hit a dead end. I'll also have to do some digging with the Glenn family...all info I've inherited says Ireland.

    Thanks again for the help.

  • Hi Laurie

Not sure if we have been in touch on a different forum or not. I am related through the Carson / Johnston line. I have quite a bit of information on Ancestry, so you may have that information from there.

I am interested in knowing which line of the Johnston's you are from. If it is Henry Carson Johnston (photographic artist), or from one of the others.

My line goes through Henry's sister Mary Carson Johnston. They originated in Craigs, Antrim, and moved to Glasgow, sometime in the early 1870's to late 1870's. Henry, as well as his sister Jane, immigrated to Canada. William, Elizabeth and my great-grandmother Mary all died in Glasgow. The others, I am not sure about.

If you have any information, on any of them, I would love to hear from you.

As I stated before, we could have been in touch elsewhere, but I would still love to share information.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Janice,

I believe I've actually used some of your information from Ancestry but I haven't tried to contact you or gone on the forums there.  I use my mother-in-law's Ancestry account (can't afford it myself) through which she lets me search my family's info as well as hers. Unfortunately there is so much info out there and I'm pretty new at the genealogy stuff that I get lost in the trees!

My line is through Henry, his daughter Jean/Jane/Jeanette, her daughter Jean Alderton (married Donald McAllister) and her son Donald Ian (my dad). I've definitely hit a dead end when it comes to finding info on Henry Carson Johnston and on the drama of his wife!

I would love to share information though there probably won't be much from me that you don't already have. The only new thing I was able to share on Ancestry was the copy of Lillis McKinlay's birth certificate that my dad ordered.

Thanks for contacting me, I can't wait to chat with you more!
