Jack Gribbin (born in 1820)married Margaret McWhinney (born in 1821) in about 1848. They had one son in 1851 named John Gribbin. His tombstone says he was born in Portglenone, County Antrim. He moved in with John and Nancy Gray in county Derry when his father died and his mother remarried to William Anderson in about 1863. Nancy was William Anderson's sister. John lived for a while in England, traveled back an forth from the US to Ireland until 1878 when he married Rebecca Moore in Philadelphia, Pa. John was in some form of military in Ireland. The last info we have on Margaret McWhinney is the 1901 census in County Derry. I would love info on these great grandparents.

You don?t say what denomination Jack was. That?s important for tracking the correct records. Statutory birth registration did not start in Ireland till 1864. Likewise RC marriages were not recorded in the stat records till that year either (non RC marriages were recorded from April 1845 onwards). I can?t see a marriage listed for Jack/John to Mgt McWhinney/Mawhinney, and so I?ll infer they were RC.
If Jack was born in Portglenone and was RC then unfortunately that parishes baptism records only start in 1864, so you may not be able to trace Jack?s. Likewise if that?s where he and Margaret married c 1848, no record has survived.
There?s no Gribbin/Gribben or McWhinney gravestones in Aughnahoy (ie Portglenone) RC graveyard.
