  • Hi Liz,

There are 14 Sarah Kilpatricks and 20 Kirkpatricks born in Antrim on www.rootsireland.ie/ so you need to provide an approximate birth year to help narrow down the options

  • Hi Col,

From NZ Marriage and Death Certificates I have her 1856 - 1842 born in Moycraig with parents Leonard KIRKPATRICK and Jeannie DEAN. She married Robert (twin) KENNEDY 1849 - 1933 from Knocksticken near Seaford, Down - parents William KENNEDY and Elizabeth OWEN - in 1876 in Dunedin, NZ. Some of their 12 children were registered with mother as KILPATRICK and some as KIRKPATRICK! I've never been able to find anything to back up the names of her parents!

    Cheers,

    Liz

  • Hi Liz

No luck with either Kilpatrick or Kirkpatrick with those parents' names I'm afraid either in the time frame you mentioned or beyond

There are 5 Sarah Kilpatricks but no Kirkpatricks in the time frame 1849 + - 7 years

Antrim 1843 (X3)  1842 (Sara Maria Donegal) and 1852 Antrim

It's a tedious process to go through all the parishes but if you wnat me to check for any of the above I can. There is no Billy in the list however

  • Hi Col,

Thanks for trying - I never had any luck with Irish records for her! If I could find her on a passenger list it might help although I expect it was steerage! I'm pretty sure she travelled alone and met Robert on the boat - married dhortly after arriving in Dunedin. The fact that the children were a mixture of KIL.. and KIRK... makes me think she was illiterate and the Registration clerk just wrote what he thought he heard - although with 12 children he must have got used to the family !!

    Thanks again,

    Liz Stanley
