Hi Everyone.

I am in Liverpool and finding it difficult to find or go back any thougher back on my mother in Law's side she was Eliza Jane Redpath 1909 Chester le street Durham,  married to William francis hector Smith 1909,  in Hendon, Middlesex 1932.

I am looking for details on Archibald and his wifes side

I have a marriage for Archibald and Amelia Christy in Armagh 1838. Also their son William John married (1839) Eliza Black (1839) on 9 Dec 1859 in Scarva, Banbridge, County Down, I am hoping they where from around that area.

  • The 1859 marriage gives William John’s townland as Terryhoogan, which is just outside Scarva. Looking at Griffiths Valuation for 1863, it lists a widow Redpath living in a cottage 3B(b) on Daniel Ferrin’s farm. (Today that’s on the Terryhoogan Rd). The revaluation records show her leaving that property in 1867. (Perhaps she had died?).

This was the only Redpath property in the townland in 1863 and so seems likely to have been William John’s home.

I see that Archibald Redpath was listed as a farmer on the 1859 certificate. I looked to see if he was listed as a farmer in that area in the tithe applotment records for 1830. He is not listed. The only Redpaths in the Terryhoogan area were James, John & Robert, all farming in Cargans, and another John in Coolyhill. I can see from the PRONI names index that Robert of Cargans died in 1836, and John of Cargans in 1857.

Difficult to advise where to go next. There are not many records for that area and that time to search.
