Thank you very much for your message. Do you have any more information that you can share that will help our volunteers further your research? Information such as:

• Specific parish of orign in Armagh. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.
• Names of other family members
• Religious denomination
• Did he emigrate? If so what do you know about it?
• Did he marry in Ireland? Do you know when he married?

I did a quick search for William Gourley in Griffith?s Valuation. This is a property valuation survey and does not give any genealogical information, it however sometime tie a person to a specific place. Two results came back in Armagh in 1864-was your William still in Ireland at that time?

Thank you for replying to my post. Here is what I have so far.

William Gourley born abt 1823 Armagh, Ireland. Died 23 October 1854 Seymour, Victoria, Australia by drowning in the Goulburn River.  Another name for William was William Gourlay.He married a Margaret Harpur in 1842 at Down, Down, Ireland (she was born 1824, Down, Ireland and died 5 April 1858 White Hills, Australia.

Sources: Birth for William-Family Search NFN:MLUM-90. Also I have Harpur family information sent to me from a Harpur family member. On the marriage certificate for William and Margaret's son, William is listed as a Stonemason 1866

William, his wife and 4 children (Margaret Ann 1844 Newry, County Down, William 1847 Newry, Mary Jane 1849 Armagh, Elizabeth 1852 at sea, Elizabeth Sarah 1854 Collingwood Victoria)  emigrated to Australia in 1852 on the "Mangerton" sailing from Liverpool, England on 26 Jan 1852 arriving at Point Henry near Geelong on 5 June 1852 (Harpur family history).

I have William Gourley and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick down as his parents, but I cannot find a connection. (William born 1783 Armagh and Elizabeth born 1783 Ireland) both dying in Fairfield Twp, Crawford Co. Pa.
