I looked at the 1828 Tithe Applotment listings for Drumcree civil parish (which includes Portadown). There were three Robert Gardner entries. This could mean 3 separate people or possibly one or two individuals leased land in three townlands.

I also looked at the 1864 Griffiths Valuation head of household entries for Drumcree civil parish.

There was one Robert Gardner listed in Derryall townland. Not sure how this Robert relates to the 1828 records. Also, keep in mind if your Robert died before 1864, he would not be on the Griffiths. I do note that there is a Jane Garner listed in Foy More townland. Is that the widow of your Robert?
You have a few leads to check out.

This may be a few years too late, but I'm researching my Gardner ancestors in Northern Ireland.
Of particular interest would be any Y-DNA results of Gardner males. My Y-DNA haplogroup is an "N" which is very unusual in Ireland, which would make it eaiser to sort out any connections in NI.

Jacob Gardner 21 batchelor Foy Drumcree father Robert married Ellen Atkinson single 21 father Dines Atkinson of Tamnificarbet May 3 1860 Seagoe parish church
I think Dynes lived in Tarsan as most Dynes I know of are too young to have had Ellen. Wife could be Letitia and later Elizabeth or there could be several Dynes in Tarsan.
I have your Maxwells in my McCleary tree and am trying to figure out whether there are 2 Richard Mays. Son James m. Hyde appears to live in both townlands mentioned for the 2 Richards in Griffiths. Have you found out which Richard May married a Hamilton? I am looking at the one with daughter Mary Jane who married a Henry Abraham. Henry's father Michael is near Derryadd and the family says Michael's son Harrison married Eliza Jane Hamilton.

I have a Jane GARDNER who married Jonathon WHALEY. I think she was bp in Dromore Parish, Co Down on 7 May 1816, to Robert Gardner/Elizabeth McKee. Other children bp to Robert/Elizabeth/Elisa McKee were Robert in 1819 and Elisa in 1822. I think the church for the Dromore parish was Knocknamuckly ? The extended family was C of I.
I think they were from the Banbridge/Tandragee area. Jonathon and Jane married in 1841, and Jane died in 1871. Most of their children migrated to New Zealand.
