Hi

I have just  started out researching my family tree and already recieved tremendous help from one of the members here. I am trying to go back furter- as far as i can....At this point what i know is this:

My family comes from Armagh County the town of Tartaraghan in the parish of Drumcree.

My father was born in the USA but his father was born in Ireland. His name is John Corr born 12/24/1866 or 1868 and passed in 1932 after immagrating to the States...

His father was Charles John Corr 1829-1891 born and lived in Tartarghan. He married Isabella McShane. They had four children John (my great grandfather), James, Hugh and Mary.

I am told i have many cousins still in Ireland in the Londonderry area and that the old Corr Farm still stands deserted. My hope is to visit Ireland within the next few years- i want be able to see where i came from and maybe if i am lucky meet some family too.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

  • Hi Deanna,

www.rootsireland.ie/ has the marriage record of Charles Corr & Isabella McShane in Armagh in 1860

It costs to get the record but if you purchase it it should have the parents' names and the parish to help you go back further. If you get the parents' names you can search on the Tithe Applotments (free to search) to see where they lived at that time (1823-37)

There are also records of the three other children in the baptisms/births but not John.

  • Hi Deanna - I stumbled across this very old post and wondered if you had your questions answered?

John C. Corr was my great grandfather and settled in Cambridge, MA after arrival in the U.S., so we are cousins of some sort...

I have a detailed family tree on Ancestry that I would be happy to share with you.

    Best,
