I am searching for information on my ggg-grandparents, FRANCIS McGRATH and ROSE VALLELY. They were the parents of JAMES McGRATH, born c. 1834 in Cladybeg. James emigrated to Ontario, Canada and married there in 1854. At the time of his marriage, James provided information that included his parents names and his place of birth. I have no Irish documentation to support this but also no reason not to believe this information either.
I have searched all available online records and have not found a trace of Francis or Rose McGrath.
Hopefully, James was not an only child and I can find other descendants of Francis and Rose.
Thank you,
Frankie McGraw-Nicol

Dear Frankie
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and thanks for your message
As you may know, Cladybeg is a townland in the Civil Parish of Kilclooney, Co. Armagh:
The records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Ballymacnab/Lisnadill begin in 1820. You say you have had no luck finding any records of Francis and Rose. Have you searched www.familysearch.org or www.rootsireland.ie (a subscription site) for records of other children they may have had? As they were born prior to 1864, the year when civil registration began in Ireland (generally speaking) there will be no civil record of the births of any children or of Francis and Rose?s marriage.
You could also search the Tithe Applotment Books 1823-1837 and the Griffith?s Valuation, (a land survey taken between 1847 and 1864) for records of Francis McGrath. Although they only record the name of the head of household, it could prove useful.
