I'm collecting information about the family of Martin Pender and Mary Delaney of Rossmore. Parents of Anne, Patrick, Michael (Mick), Anna, John, Martin Jr, and James (all born between 1860 and 1875). If you know this family or are searching for information about it I might be of help. Regards- Charles Hohnbaum (Pender through maternal line). I can be reached at talltree201@gmail.com

Charles:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I located the marriage record in the Graiguecullen/Killeshin church which was in Queens Co. (today Co. Laois) when they married. In fact Rossmore where Mary was from is in Killeshin civil parish in Laois right near the border with Carlow. I have not been able to locate Augheroo. This marriage record is unusual since it is an RC church record before 1864 but the names of the fathers are shown which is a bonus. This is only the second time I remember seeing this situation.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Roger, Thank you very much. I'm grateful for this since I've been looking for the marriage record for Martin and Mary Delaney and assumed that it had not be recorded or had been lost. Would you mind sharing with me where you found it? Was it in a book at the church or online? I will traveling to Ireland (from the USA) to Carlow in 2 weeks and could stop by the church to look at the record if that is where you found it. Regards, Charles

Charles:
I found the record online on Roots Ireland which is a subscription site. Here is the link to the parish register
http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0712
You can search for the 1859 marriage which is what you would see when you visit the church.
Here is a link to the parish which is in Carlow. so your ancestors were right on the border between the two counties.

Roger, This is immensily helpful. Thank you. The image from NLI is difficult to read. However since I'll be visiting the area I'll check in at the church. I've been there before and the people have been very helpful. Regards, Charles

Roger, I was able to locate Augheroo. It is actually Agharue in Tullowcreen. https://www.townlands.ie/carlow/idrone-west/tullowcreen/rathornan/aghar… My guess is that Augheroo was the phonetic spelling of the word. Today I was able to access the Roots Ireland web site and found the record. Tomorrow I'll be in Carlow and will visit the parish for a first hand look at the record. When I called ahead the parish looked for it and confirmed that it is there.

Roger- thought I'd let you know that I viewed the actual marriage record at the parish office in Graigecullen (St. Claires). It was a wonderful experience. Martin was from Agharue and his parents (Patrick and Anne Hackett) were from Coolnakisha. I visited the parish office at Leighlinbridge looking for more records from Agharue and Coolnakisha. Discovered that Martin had a brother (John), and that the name was orginally Pendergast. The name apprears to have been shortened about 1860 when Martin was living in Rossmore. I doubt I would have found any of this without your help. Thank you again. You are a real servant to those of us looking for our families. Regards, Charles

Thanks for the feedback on your visit. My wife and I were in Ireland for ten days in mid-November and had a great trip. We were in Clare, Galway and Kerry.
You may want to consider adding one or more of your ancestors to our XO Chronicles http://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy
