Hello,
My name is Lyndon C Fenlon writing from Melbourne Australia. I am trying to find out about my Irish side of the family but as my parents were divorced when I was 9 I have very few details. I only know my fathers name and date of birth and can find this in the records but want to go further back, I can't even seem to find the names of his parents.
My Father's name was Michael John Fenlon, born County Carlow, 7th August 1925, Roman Catholic, married in England to Rosemary Helen Quaintance, I was born in Kingsbury England.
I think he had a few brothers and sisters (brother called Paddy and sister called Rose) but that's all I know, I'd really like to find out more, can anyone help?
Many Thanks
Lyndon

You can use the details from the BMD Index to order a research birth cert, which would show date and place of birth, perents name etc. These are the references they require :
Name : Michael John Fenlon
Event Type : Birth
Quarter and Year : Jul - Sep 1925
Registration District : Carlow
Volume 3 / Page 261Note Carlow in this case refers to the registration district, so includes the town and parts of counties Carlow and Laois, and Kildare.
Download the order from from this link, fill out the details making sure to include the references above, and also to tick the photocopy option for the cheaper research certs. You have to post or fax the form back to the GRO. They usually deliver certs by post but there's also an email delivery option which you can tick on the form.
Once you have parents names you could start working further back in time, e.g. search for their marriage etc
