In the publiction: Clonegal in 1798, reference is made to George Clinch, an illiterate man who signed the loyalty oath with an x. Mention is also made of "the Clynches" who lived where William Carroll lived (1798 era). anyone reading this and might be aware of the authors of the above mentioned 1798 commemoration booklet? or who might have knowledge of these Clinch and Clynch families.
I know that my grandather was born in Iowa USA (1882) on a farm which was near the farms of three Clynch brothers, one of whom had inscribed on his headstone "Cloneigal". When visiting Iowa in1986, a descendent of the Clynch clan was aware of my grandfather's line yet did not know how he was related to his Clonegal line.
I am unable to difinitively prove, but have reason to think my GGGgrandfather, John Clinch married Ellen Malone Ballypierce-Ballyshancarragh in 1846; he 34 and she 37 years of age.

The bicentennial publication Clonegal in !798 also states that Paddy Kirwin presently resides where Carroll, then the Clynches once resided.
