Hello,

I'm descended from a James Darby & Jane Davis m. 24 Sep 1833 in Ricketstown, Co Carlow.

Looking at the GV maps, it appears that Ricketstown was just to the West of Rathvilly.

I was hoping for a local perspective as to; is that the correct Ricketstown and what's there now?

Thank you,

David Darby

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

There are two parishes in Co. Carlow which have Ricketstown townlands. The map you attached is for the three Ricketstown townlands in Kineagh civil parish. There is also a Ricketstown in Rahill civil parish. Both civil parishes are in north Carlow. near the border with Kildare and Wicklow.

I looked at the Tithe records and found some Davis records in the Ricketstown in Rahill civil parish in 1825 so I would lean to that parish but again the two are not far apart.

  • Thank you for the quick reply. I will check the Tithe records. The marriage record I have is from the Rathvilly Catholic Parish. I confess the civil vs. catholic parish distinction makes my head hurt :)
