Hi

I am looking for any information on William Cartwright of Annagelliffe  born1799 +/- 5 years. Married Elizabeth Bradburn of Cooravoy townland on 21 January 1831. They had seven chidren and Elizabeth left Ireland for Australia with the children as a widow arriving in the colony in March 1858.

Any information on Wiiliams birth or death would be appreciated, some suggest he died in 1848 in Northern Ireland but i have no information on this being the case

Regards

Vicki

  • Registration of deaths commenced in 1864, so it may be difficult to find out any details on Williams death. There may be a church record of death / burial. Do you know what denomination the family were and which church or parish they baptised their children ?

  • The Cartwrights were Church of Ireland, I have a record of their marriage which states they were married in the Parish of Drung and also a christening record for their daughters Elizabeth christened on 19 Janurary 1834 and daughter  Jane christened on 14 September 1838. I have also found a marriage record for their daughter Elizabeth who married Thomas Livingstone on 27 January 1857 at Larah, County Cavan These are the only records I am aware of.

  • Cooravoy seems to be a variant for Corravogy townland (see entry on Placenames database at logainm.ie) or possibly Corravohy, the first is located between Drung & Ballyvin and the second west of Drung. Both are in Drung civil and Church of Ireland parish, which would fit as their place of marriage, which usually took place in the bride's parish. The records from Drung CofI parish go back to 1759 for baptisms, 1785 for marriages and mid 1770s for death burials so worth checking for records for Elizabeth her family. Historic records for the parish are held by the RCB Library in South Co. Dublin. Transcripts of baptism records for the parish of Drung & Larah are availabale on RootsIreland (pay-website), but they dont seem to include marriages or deaths yet.

Annagelliffe townland is located in the Civil parish of the same name and their registers go back to 1804. These appear to be held in local custody. RootsIreland include baptism, marriage & death/burial transcripts going back to 1802 for a parish refered to as 'Anna', which might be a short name for the parish.

I am a direct descendant of William Cartwright and Elizabeth Bradburn and live in Australia. I have extensive history of the Cartwrights who came out from County Cavan. Elizabeth came out with Seven Children and Elizabeth was married to Thomas Livingstone. If you would like more info please contact me at mdleader2014@gmail.com. Denise (NeeCartwright)
