  • Hi Robert

There is a record of the baptism of Peter O'Reilly in Cavan 1818 on www.rootsireland.ie/

Annagelliff is not in the list of parishes.

You need to purchase credit to view the full record but it will have the parish and MAYBE his parents' names.

  • As is so often the case in this search process, I was disappointed to determine that your suggestion was a dead end for me.  There was a record of a Peter Reilly baptized in Cavan in 1818 but the parents didn't match.  I then noted a Peter O'Reilly baptized in 1820...struck out again.  Wrong parents.  Oh well, 50 credits down and the search continues.

I'm traveling to Ireland in March with one of my grandsons.  In addition to Peter O'Reilly from Cavan, we also have a maternal grandfather that was born in Crossmolina, County Mayo in 1795.  His name was Dominick O'Donnell.  Both ggggrandfathers  emigrated to Canada around 1840.

I sincerely appreciate your help and I look forward to hearing from you again if you come across any promising leads in the future.  Thanks Col.

  • Col, my eyes are beginning to cross....Peter O'Reilly was born in Cavan in 1808...not as I reported initially in 1818.

It took me a while to realize my mistake.  I wondered why I hadn't seen the baptism you found when I was researching earlier.  I then compounded my error by spnding 50 credits checking out 2 folks who wewre not even close to my target.  I believe I may have learned my lesson.

Thanks again for your help and please forgive a cross-eyed rookie at this end.  My apologies.

  • Sorry Bob,

I found an 1818 record not 1808 as your original message said so I am the eejit!

To atone for my sins I did another search and the closest match to 1808 is 1816 - bit it is Peter Reilly.

Perhaps the names were used interchangeably.

Can you advise Peter's parents' names so I can search for them.
