William Henry Ferguson married Ellen Brownlee on 4 September 1833 at Annageliffe. She died on 21 March 1866 at Butlersbridge and he emigrated to New Zealand in 1867 to be with their three sons John, William and Robert. I can find no reference to the marriage or to William Henry's father who I understand was a John Ferguson. Any help would be appreciated asour Family tree just stops there.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You don't mention religious denomination but if they were C of I, records start back in 1804 according to a reference book that I have. However, I don't see the records for that church on Roots Ireland. You may want to try to contact the C of I Diocese of Kilmore or the Urney cluster of C of I churches to see if they know where the records are kept.

I also checked the Tithes from 1826 and the only Ferguson listed for the parish was a Thomas Ferguson.

  • Roger, thank you. What I do know is that in the geneology.rootsweb.ancestry.com site for the Fergusons of Cavan appears a memorial inscription for the Church of Ireland at Ballyhaise which says "Sacred to the memory of Eleanor wife of Henry Ferguson, who died 21 March 1866 aged 54 years. Erected by her three sons John Henry and Robert". I shall try the parishes as you suggest.

  • There’s a death registered for Ellen Ferguson in Cavan town, in 1866 aged 54. (Cavan town 1866 Volume 3, page 72). That appears to fit the information you have. You might get a little additional information from that death certificate.

  • Elwyn, thanks. Earlier in the year I noticed two 2014 posts on on your Annagh Parish site signed as "Julie" and ref "wheelz13" and a response by Clare Doyle. Julie, I suspect lives in New Zealand like me and is/was researching Henry Ferguson's brother John so the research I want may already have been done. I posted a reply to Julie's 2014 post this year, but have not received a response. I know you cannot release her email address to me but if the site has it can they alert her to the existance of my enquiry so she may respond.

Elwyn alerted me to your situation. I sent an e-mail to Julie and hopefully she will see my message and post a comment here. Happy New Year!

Bad news. I received a bounce back on my e-mail so apparently Julie has a new e-mail address. Sorry!
