Hi Neil & Julia,

Is Rose aged 60 and living in house No 9 in Curkish, with her two children Patrick (25) & Katie (32), both unmarried? http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cavan/Bailieborough/Co… (Free to view).  When I look at the Form B. I of the Census, Rose was a tenant to Patrick Clarke, so I am guessing this is her son, who now owns the land.  So the question is did Pat die in 1951 and was it bought by Daniel Farrelly, who then in turn sold it to Frank Clarke.  Clarkes are very plentiful around Bailieborough.  Curkish is a townland outside the town of Bailieborough, but very close to the town as a result a lot of the area has been developed for housing, while there is still some farmland.  One of the quickest way to find out if there are still relatives in the area would be to write to the local paper the Anglo Celt at linda@anglocelt.ie giving all your details including email and phone number, the hope would be that Frank Clarke, if he is still alive or his family or any of your family would contact you.  I searched Familysearch.org (free site) & this would appear to be Pat Clarke's registered death, it fits with 1911 census and the change of ownership.

Name: Patrick Clarke Event Type: Death Event Date: Apr - Jun 1950 Event Place: Bailieborough, Ireland Registration Quarter and Year: Apr - Jun 1950 Registration District: Bailieborough Age: 84 Birth Year (Estimated):1866 Volume Number: 2 Page Number: 133.  If you applied for this certificate, it would tell you if he was married and who the informant was, hopefully the informant is a relative like a son or daughter and that would give you a link to the next generation.  

You could apply for his statutory death certificate for €4.  You can order a photocopy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon for €4.  http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can’t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.

Put the reference details on the form (anywhere). Don’t worry about leaving some boxes blank. As long as GRO have the location, name(s), year, quarter (where there is one), volume and page number they should find it.

Thank you so much for your response, you will never know how much we appreciate your help.  It's especially nice to have people from the area our relatives came from assisting us.  We followed your advice and sent an email to the paper with our information and have ordered the death certificate.  Your suggestions were so appreciated as we are new to the family research world and with Ireland's unique challenges it has been a slow going for our Ireland relatives. We will keep you updated and will keep praying that we will be successful in finding and contacting our relatives still in the area.

Carmel: We wanted to share with you the positive results we've had in following your suggestion. Julia did place an add in the paper and we've already been contatced by two relatives. One lives in County Cavan and the other lives in the U.S. in Florida. it has been exciting to exchange messages with both and each is creating leads and opportunities. The Cousin living in Florida has been to Ireland three times and has been helpful and kind with insights. The wife of the other cousin has also been a joy and has even invited us to come stay there when we go. Many doors are opening and will be so benificial in our efforts to biuld bridges back to our history and recoonect with our family in Ireland as well.  With a connection to the Clarke family in Ireland we have certainly confirmed that there are a very large number of possible relatives who currently reside in County Cavan. We also sent for the Deather Certificate and you had suggested and are awaiting the expected time passage for the request to bring results. That is brilliant, I did get to talk to two people who lived in Curkish, but they could not place the family except to say perhaps they were the 'Gussie' Clarkes, but apart from that they could not make any connections, beause Clarkes were so common, they often had a nickname, which to some that may seem offensive, but that is how they identified their specific family and it may be as simple as calling them "The Dans" etc .
