Hello,
I am researching family history of my great grandfather William Cruikshank/Cruickshank and my great great grandfather Robert Cruikshank/Cruickshank. Also possible Crookshank families in the area. All different spelling derivations of our name.
Would like any help or information that is available with regards to my family.
Thanks,
Don Cruikshank

Don:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I will alert our parish liaison for Bailieborough about your message.
I found an old message from a Carol Foley who appears to be researching the same family.

Don, I know this is an old post but I'm currently researching my family tree and found David Cruikshank married to Mary Stephenson (1776) to (1858). I know that they came to New York and are burried in Deerfield Cemetary. names of their children are Margaret, Samuel, Eliza, Thomas, Mary, William, David A, and Robert M. My grandfather is Charles Henry Cruikshank. I would love to hear from you with any information you may have.

Hello Jamie,
Nice to hear from you. I haven't found that David and descendants were/are related to my family. I do have his tree built out though just in case I manage to find a relationship along the way.
Do you know how your Charles Henry is related to David?
I will send you some information that I have found on a Charles H. Cruikshank. Not sure if this is your grandfather.

Dear Jamie & Don,
I will look for a photo of a headstone from Shercock Church of Ireland, Graveyard, where there are some Cruickshanks buried.

Posting Robert M Cruikshank and David Cruikshank his father, we have been trying to get information on David but hit a dead end, we think he may have come over from Scotland. We do have his wife Mary Stephenson (1776) -(1855) who we think is from Ireland and they may have had a couple of children that died in ireland before they came over to New York.

The transcriptions from Church of Ireland, Shercock are:
Eliza/ The wife of Robert Cruickshank/ Died July 3rd 1889 aged 70 years/ Also their children/ Alexander, Martha and Mary Ann/ 'Until the day break/ And the shadows flee away.
In /Loving Memory/ Of/ James Stanage/ Late of Lisgar (?) House, County Cavan/ Whom the Lord recalled/ 6th November 1894, in his 64th Year/ This memorial tablet is erected/ by his sister and brother/ Mrs Stafford Cruickshanks and John Stanage/ I am the resurrection and the life/St John XI 25.
Also look up RIP.ie for Counties Cavan & Monaghan and search for recent deaths for people with similar names, you will be able to find names of living relatives, that perhaps you could contact and see if you can make links.
I looked at the local Presbyterian burial grounds but did not find any there.
Good luck with your research and I hope the above helps you.

Hi Carmel,
I hope that you are well. In reference to your post above on Robert and Eliza, they would be my 2nd great grandfather and grandmother. Alexander was a brother to my great grandfather William Thomas Cruikshank. Martha and Mary Ann are sisters to William and both died in 1884 of diptheria.
I believe Stafford Cruikshank was a brother to Robert, my 2nd great grandfather. He was married to Anne Stanage, as you referenced.
Any other information that you can provide would be great.
Regards,
Don Cruikshank

Hi Don,
Use all the information that is available for free on http://www.genealogy.nationalarchives.ie and if you find a listing for suitable wills, contact the National Archives and find out if it is available and can you obtain a copy. On the 1901 Census the only suitable family in Drumhilla is Samuel's http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cavan/Shercock/Drumhil… I looked up some photographs I had taken of the Rental Valuations, which I had for my own family use and two parcels of land that Samuel took over were previously owned by Margaret & Isaiah McChesney, if might be worth probing if they are connected to your family.

Thanks very much Carmel,
I checked through these documents and was unable to find any the fit my family records except for the 1901 census for which I had the census document for that.
Really appreciate you getting back to me.
