Looking for information about my great great grandparents, Philip and Honora  McConnel  who lived in Drumlane Civil Parish in County Cavan. They lived in both Rafian and Mullanaffrin townlands in the 1830's and 1840's.

They had at least 6 children, Matthew, Thomas, Bridget, Margaret, Anne, and Philip. Honora's maiden name was Murray. Honora, Matthew, Thomas, Bridget and  Margaret all came to the U.S.A. in the 1860's. Thomas settled in Auburn, New York, and all the others settled in Skaneateles, New York, which is nearby. I do not know when father, Philip died.I believe it must have been before the family started to leave, There is no record of him in New York. Son Philip stayed in Ireland but his son Philip #3 came to New York at 2years old and lived with his aunts in Skaneateles.I wonder if there is any information concerning the deaths of Philip Sr. and Philip Jr. ? Thank you for any information.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and located baptismal records for Anne 1836 Matthew 1839 Thomas 1842.The Drumlane RC records start in January 1836 so I don't think we will find records for the other children https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0831

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Drumlane civil parish shows a Philip Connell in Rafian townland so likely the father.  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cavan/drumlane.htm

A Philip McConnell married an Elizabeth McKiernan from Rafian in 1859 in Drumlane church so this could be Philip Jr.

I will look for possible death records.

  • Barbara Anne:

The subscription site Roots Ireland has a December 11 1859 baptismal record in Drumlane parish with father Philip McConnell and mother Catherine McConnell. However, I could not find a Philip McConnell marriage to a Catherine. I also did not find any baptismal records for any children of Philip McConnell and Elizabeth McKiernan.

Civil registration of deaths started in 1864.I searched for Philip Connell/McConnell death records in the Cavan registration district and did not find a good lead. Possibly both father and son died pre-1864.
