Hi looking for any information on George Patterson 1730 to 1820 and any information on the Patterson before George. The family chart I have came from a cousin, so I have a lot of names of later Patterson family. I would love to know more about George and his family from Drumlane Cavan. My chart tells me that George was buried at Callowhill Church yard Kinawley Fermanagh.
Kind regards Judy

You may be fortunate and find your family in Kinawley records.

Thank you very much Bob, the information was very helpful. I believe I'm also related to the Graham's of Fermangh, again from a chart that a cousin sent me, about our family. The information I have is of Christopher Graham of Kinakelly (Gentleman), his son Francis Graham (Gentleman) of Coolaron he married Jane Balfour. They had son Arthur Graham, he had a daughter Elizabeth Graham born 16/7/1775 she married William Patterson of Corraclare.

Hi there, I know this is an old post but I was researching my geneology and came across this post on Google. It looks like I'm too related to the Grahams through Christopher Graham of Kinakelly (my 8th great-grandfather), his son Francis Graham and Jane Balfour, and their son Arthur Graham. Any information you may have would be very useful.
Best wishes

Hello Kassia,
I'm not sure if I can help much with the Graham's. Most of the information we have came from Bob Graham. Bob told me that he could not get back any further then Christopher Graham, as there were no more records on the Graham's before arriving in Ireland. May I ask where on the tree do you sit? I'm from William Henry Patterson arrived in Australia in 1863. He arrived with two of the Graham girls Sarah and Louisa, Francis Graham the girls father was a sponsor for them.
I get most of my information for the family tree from my cousin Vicki, she believe's the tree is correct. I've just had the DNA test and I'm not matched to any Balfour trees, so I'm not sure if the information is correct about the Balfour's. Although DNA is a funny thing, maybe the Balfour DNA is too far back.
Anyway e-mail me again and let me know what information you are looking for?
Bye for now
Cheers Judy

Hi Judy,
Thanks so much for responding to me. I'm living in Milton Keynes, South East England but the rest of my family are in the North East of England - I'm the only one to move away.
On my mam's side of the family her Great Grandmother was Jane Ann Graham (1859–1923) who was born in what we now call Cumbria, England and died in County Durham, England so she crossed the Pennines at some point.
Going back from there Jane's father was Charles Graham (1825–1886), his father was William Graham, his mother was Isabella Graham (married to James Graham), and her father was Arthur Graham, son of Francis Graham and Jane Balfour. Because Francis and his father Christopher are listed as Gentlemen I was assuming they were not part of the James IV/I border clearances (but remain open-minded either way), but I was hoping that I could make the link and follow the Graham line back into Scotland. Francis Grahams father Christopher was a land owner and seemed to be comfortably well off. Perhaps they are linked to Sirs George and Richard Graham who were descended from William Graham from the Scottish/English borders.
I've discovered that Jane Balfour was the illegitimate daughter of William Balfour Esq of Castle Balfour. She married Francis Graham against her fathers wishes and was disinherited. Although her son's were acknowledged by William Balfour as his grandchildren leaving money in his will for them.
Jane Balfour's brother John Balfour he did not want his daughter Armatage to marry William Graham son of Francis and Jane and offered her money if she did not. She went on to marry Andrew Armstrong. Family's are funny things and it would be interesting to know why William and his family had such a strong objection to Francis, but I may never know.
I've found this on the Balfours if you are interested/not seen it before: http://www.denmylne.co.uk/history/BALFOUR.html My side of the family come in under the Balfours of Burleigh, B7 III, 4.II. William Balfour, the 3rd son of Sir James Balfour of Pittendriech, was William Balfour Esq's Grandfather.
I haven't had a DNA test yet, but I might do at some point. It will be interesting to see what it brings up as my mam's side of the family also has Clan Frazer (Lowland Frazers) until the mid-1800's in it but I know nothing past my own grandparents on my dad's side of the family as he can't remember anything.
Thanks again.
Cheers

Hello again Kassia,
Well you have a lot of information there on your Graham's would you mind if I put it in my Graham file? I have in my family tree, two Graham families. One from my Grandfather Ross that's the Balfour/Graham's and on my Grandmother's side of the family are David Graham abt 1811 and his wife Elizabeth Graham nee MacKay both from Fermanagh Ireland. Bob Graham told me there are three different groups of Graham's in Fermanagh, and my grandparent's are from two separate one's. He did give me more information on that, but at
the moment I'm not sure which file I've put it in. When I find it I'll tell you more about which family David Graham is from..
Now about the Balfour/Graham's we are suppose to be from Elizabeth Graham daughter of Arthur Graham and Margaret Morton. Elizabeth Graham married William Patterson of Corraclare and that's where the Patterson family come into the picture. And the Patterson family would have also came from Scotland, but the chart on them only goes back so far. Same as the Graham's all the information on them starts in Ireland.
Oh! about Francis Graham. I'm not sure if this might help you, awhile ago my daughter found something on the net about William Balfour of Castle Balfour going Guarantor/Guaranteed a loan for a Graham, sorry don't remember if it was Francis or another Graham. If I find the note again I'll e-mail you, maybe that might be the reason for his dislike of the Graham's, well maybe not just a thought anyway.
If you are looking for more information on the Graham's, I've still got Bob Graham's e-mail address. He might have more on the Graham's now, it's been awhile since we last talked. So maybe contact him on bobgraham@talktalk.net Please let me know if you find out more about the Graham family, here is my e-mail address judyhorrigan@hotmail.com It's much easier to send any pictures or information via e-mail. Forgot to mention Bob also lives in England.
Are you on Ancestry? My tree is the Ross family public tree. just type in Francis Graham/Jane Balfour and you will find me. My tree needs a lot of work, not all the information is there. I still work full time so not much free time to add to my tree at the moment. Well it's time to say good bye to my Graham cousin, look forward to your next e-mail.
Cheers Judy.
P.S. Have you seen a story on the Ulster Scots by Raymond Campbell Paterson. www.ulsterancestry.com if not you might find it an interesting read.
