Hello extended family!
I am searching for information on my maternal grandfather's ancestors. He is Peter McDonald (Baptised in 1893); his father was Patrick McDonald and mother was Mary Hanna. Peter came to Boston, Massachusetts in about 1910.
Any information to help me travel back into my family's history would be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted at my direct email: jaynenh@gmail.com
Be well, Jayne Buckley Sykes

Here’s your McDonald family in Gortaquil in 1901:

There were two other households close by who are likely to be related.

Here’s your family in 1911. Note that they had had 11 children, all of whom were still alive at that time.

Patrick’s marriage to Mary Hanna was registered in Cavan town 1875 volume 8, page 85. That will give you his father’s name.

Elwyn,
Thank you so much for your efforts! I now have some homework to do. Had access to 1901 and 1911 census, but did not realise that the other two households may be related. Will be looking at those branches more closely thanks to you. And the marriage info is pure gold, as I was never able to go back to that info. Thanks again and be well.

Glad to have helped. Looking at Griffiths Valuation for Gortaquil in 1857, the whole townland was leased then to one tenant (Patrick McGovern) so it appears that the McDonalds and other tenants in the 1901 census moved there some time after that.
