I Carmel, I see your message loud and clear. I'm not having much luck trying to get a committee formed in the Glangevlin area. I live on Long Island, just outside New York City. I hopefully will organize a McGOVERN CLAN GATHERING in Glangevlin maybe this August. I was born in NY, as was my father. I have been doing Family Genealogy for about 30 years, and have about 1,000 names in my EXCEL database. I share this info with others. Please let me know how your Reaching Out project is going in your neck of the woods. I have been to Cavan in 1964, 2002, and in 2010. The Cavan politicians come to NY each year for our March Ball and march with us up Fifth Avenue. I know personally Peter McVitty, Sean McKiernan, Eoin Doyle, Joe O'Reilly, and others. Thanks for your reply, you sound just like me!!, except I live here.  I have approx 1900 in my O'Reilly family tree ( my maiden name) & 1000 in O'Callaghan's.  I intend to have a meeting locally soon & try & call relevant stakeholders together, politicians, librarians, various clubs etc.  to see can I broaden the base here.  I know Joe & Sean they live not too far from me.  Best of luck with your Clan Gathering.. Thanks Mike I will chat to Sean.  I think there is someone organising an O'Reilly clan dinner etc.. I will also contact him.  My O'Reillys come from Knockbride, townland of Corlattylennon & last year I joined up 2 other  O'Reilly families through our common in laws Callan's & Martins, giving me new 4th cousins which was exciting, I have lots of O'Reilly cousins in USA, some not interested in ancestors, but then they have history, they would rather forget.  My husbands family were Cosgroves from Lavey & some of them emigrated to USA & were never heard tell of again.  I better stop here or I will be giving you the whole list of missing relatives.....

this event is running in tangent with the Co Cavan gathering from 19th August to 25th & is following on from the All Ireland Fleadh in Derry as the Fleadh attendees may stop off in Cavan on their way home down the country.

Hi, I'm Carol McLoughlin from the US. My grandfather John McLoughlin, and his brothers Michael and Terence emigrated from Curravagh/Glangevlin to NYC. Their youngest sister, Mary Kate McLoughlin McHugh, did too, for a time. She eventually returned home. Micheal and my grandfather spelled the last name with an "a" in the US, instead of an "o". But I have found that most of the Irish records for their family in Ireland spell it with an "o".

I visited the Glangevlin/Curravagh/Blacklion areas in 2008. Visited with cousins Michael Dolan, Carmel Dolan (I forget her married name) and Michael McLoughlin. If anyone is related and wants info on the emigrees, I can help.

I have just begun my geneology search in conjunction with my daughter and found the pamphlet for this website while I was at the Irish Consulate in New York today (Applying for my Irish passport as I'm a Foreign Birth Citizen as of last year).  I'm hoping to find more detail on my grandmother's side of the family. Her name was Annie Fitzpatrick and I believe she was born in 1906 (possibly in Dunmakeever).  I'm pretty sure her father was Cormack Fitzpatrick (I have seen his name spelled with as Cormick as well but I think the A is correct).  I know there were at least 10 children in the family, possibly13??   with my grandmother Annie being toward the younger end of that line.  I'm not sure if they all shared the same mother or if Cormack had remarried? (Did they even do that then?)  I'm pretty sure Cormack was married to an Alice McManus at one point, but again, I'm not 100% sure of the timeframe there.   That's as far back as I've gotten so any light you can shed on my geneological search would be greatly appreciated.  My wife and I visited Southern Ireland last summer and our daughters now want to come with us to search out our family history.
