Hello,

I am looking for information on my Blake ancestors, particularly a Thomas Blake (b. circa 1810). HIm and his wife, Margaret (b. circa 1810) came to the United States around 1846 with their four children:

Mary Blake b. circa 1834

Michael Blake (my great-great grandfather) b. circa 1837

Catherine Blake b. circa 1839

Margaret Blake b. circa 1844

I got this information from an 1850 U.S. census record. From Ancestry.com, there is information that Margaret's maiden name may have been Casey but I have been unable to verify that information. Yesterday, I spoke with the eldest living Blake relative in my familiy and he said he believed the family to have come from County Cavan. They are Roman Catholic. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Erin Butler

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Have you had a look at www.rootsireland.ie (a subscription site) for any records of the family? As civil registration began in 1864 there will be no civil record of the marriage of Thomas and Margaret and no civil record of the birth of their children. There may be parish baptism and marriage records though and you will be able to search for them on that site. It may be the case though, that they married and had the children at a time that predates the parish records.

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search
