I'm trying to find where Bartholomew Brady came from.  For years the family has said they came from Cavan.  Bartholomew McGee and Ann Smith came to the US about 1848.  Children Eliza b Feb of 1838.  married John McGee in Joachin, Jefferson Co MO Sept 1859.  John's parents were listed as Conrad McGee and Rosa Brady.  John and Eliza named thier first daughter Rosa Belle.  Eliza had 3 brothers still living at home with Bart and Ann.  Michaael, John and Bernard.  Michael married Elizabeth Corley widow of an Applegate.  05 Jan 1863.  In just a short time later Elizabeth married again.  I assume Michael has died.  I also found where Elizabeth mother (?) has filed a law suit to reposses the land.  No further mention of Michael for sure.  Civil war records have mention of all the Brady's but no way to determine so far that I can find. Bartholomew Brady died in Joachin, Jefferson Co. MO in 07 Oct 1865.  This is when the War forced the family to flee up to Dunleith (East Dubuque), IL.  John McGee and Eliza took Ann and John and went up the river to Il.    John married the widow Rosetta Higgins Who had come with the family from MO.  They married in Dubuque Co. Iowa 11 May 1870 one son Bernard was born.  John died 04 July 1877 in East Dubuque, IL  Rosetta Higgins took back her first husbands name and pension.  He was in the war.  She also had 2 other children by him.  Bernard grew up and married and has a long line of descendants.  I'm trying to find where in Cavan they may have come from.  I have no idea on McGee.  But Brady and Smith I found two family in the same area of Lavan Denn.  I'm not sure but I only found 2 Bartholomew and one lived near Smith.  Also Grandma said they were lace curtian Irish and  made Lace. I do remember her Mother sitting an making lace collars with a ball of string.  She wore her long black high collar dresses with little lace collars all the time.  Any one have any idea where in Cavan they came from or where the McGee's were.  Thank you Marilyn

The surname Brady is very, very common in Co. Cavan so the family lore is probably correct. There were over 1000 head of households named Brady in the Griffiths Valuation for Co. Cavan in 1856. The name was also found in many other counties.

I don't want to offend you but your message is very hard to follow. Who is Bartholomew Brady and how does he relate to Bartholomew McGee who came to the USA in 1848 with Ann Smith?

Can you clarify what you know about your ancestors who were born and/or married in Ireland? The events in the USA are not germane to our volunteers who will try to assist you with your Irish family.

    Thank you.
