Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I located a possible baptismal record for Patrick on the subscription site Roots Ireland. See transcription below. The surname Reilly is extremely common in Co. Cavan. Let me know if you think this is the correct record for your grandfather.

Roger,
Thanks very much for this help. Unfortunately I do not think it is him. He was married in 1914 in Clydebank, Scotland and was aged 23. He also appears on the Irish Census for Cavan in 1901 aged 10 and the Census for 1911 aged 20. Those 3 records tell me he was born in 1891, the Census states he was born in Cavna, his father was Patrick Reilly and mother Ellen Wilson. However, I am struggling to find his birth details. Will keep searching. Dan

Birth for Thomas - 9th November 1890 (see entry 216 in the image), parents Thomas Reilly & Ellen Wilson. Place of birth & residence looks like Carnaveagh, possibly a reference to Carricknaveagh townland in Killinkere civil parish.

Thank you so much. This is it ! Father in entry is Patrick and mother is Ellen Wilson.
Interesting too since the 1911 census shows them living at 11, Carricknaveagh although the 1901 census has them living at Beaghglebe Street.

Now moving onto my Grandmother birth date search. Name was Catherine Laverty and she married Thomas Reilly in 1914 when she was aged 24. Father was Patrick Laverty and mother was Maggie Laverty (Mc Laughlin). Think she was from Donegal and the town of Stranorlar has been mentioned but I am not finding her there so that might be wrong. Any help much appreciated. Dan

Here is the 1901 census record for Catherine. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Stranorlar/Str…; Name was shown as Cassie and I think her mother had died. Also, the person who transcribed the record showed the age as 18 but upon closer look, it was 13 which fits with the ages of her older sisters. This is likely her in the 9111 census.

I located a possible transcription of her civil birth record on Roots Ireland but for some reason, I can't find the actual record on www.irishgenealogy.ie Name was shown as Lafferty and mother was Margaret McLoughlin

Forget the 1911 census record I sent you on the last message. Looks like the family moved out of town to a townland called Drumboe Lower and Patrick the father was now Hugh Patrick. He had 12 children living with him and his second wife.

If you look closer at the 1890 death record for Margaret Laverty, it looks like she died during childbirth. See record right above Margaret's.

Brilliant, thanks for all this wonderful information. I will have a good look at it today. Looks like I have found both of them thanks to you. Dan

Yes, the record for Catherine Lafferty looks the one. Originally my cousin told me it was Lafferty but on my parents' marriage cert and Catherine's death certificate it was down as Laverty. Presume interchangeable.
