Lookinf for the McCabes from the Parish of Bailieborough in or around the 1820s. My GGGrandfather, Patrick, came from somewhere in the area in 1847 to Ontario, Canada. There he joined his Uncle Felix. Felix was married to a Mary/Margaret  Smythe/Smith in Ireland before he immigrated to Canada with some of his children, one of which was Edward b. circa 1810 in Ireland.

Using the Tithe Applotment records adn the Irish naming conventin, I have found there to ba a Partick and Felix in the Bailieborough Parish in the Townlands of Drumoosclin and Greaghduff for the period in question.

Now I need to find info on them to determine if the Patrick had a son Patrick born/christened  in or about 1817. The same would apply to Felix and his son Edward.

Tried most means to records like the LDS church, Ancestry and searching the Internet to no avail.

Was wondering if someone here may be able to help me.

Greatest appreciation and thanks in advance.

  • Hi Thom,

This has been referred to me I see I had attempted to help you before & you have had no further success.

Did you contact Cavan Genealogy, they may have some old census records that are not online or else someone one else may have been searching for similar info as yours contact them at cavangenealogy@eircom.net.  To get to a wider audience perhaps write to the editor at the Anglo Celt linda@anglocelt.ie, they will be able to publish a letter giving your details & you never know who may respond to you.

The McCabe Clan Gathering can be contacted  through brianfrancis.mccabe@gmail.com

I looked up the Lists of priests for the parish & the following names Felix McCabes turn up

born 1750 of Patrick mcCabe & Mary O'Donoghue, Greaghnafarna, Killinkere. St Nicholas de Chardonnet, Ord 775, chaplain to the French Regiment (1775-1783) PP Mullagh 1794 died Dec 1816

born of James McCabe & Eleanor O'Reilly, Drumgoon.  Maynooth ord 1804 PP Castletarra 1808 PP Kilsherdany 1814 died M ar 1842

born 1821 of John McCabe & Bridget ? Crann, Drumgoon. Rome ord Mar 1849 CC Den 1850, Ballinamore 1857, Lavey 1861, Died July 1864

born 1897 of Patrick McCabe & Catherine Smith, Corratinner, Killenkere. Maynooth ord 1923. Carickmore Armagh 1925. St Pat's College 1926. CC Carrigallen 1933.  Ballyjamesduff 1939. Crosserlough 1943.  PP Kildallen

I went through all the McCabe priests that were ordained for the Diocese but none of them turned up in the townlands you mentioned.  I followed the Felix names as they are not too common & names usually follow the family lines.

They are the only leads I have for you.  Regards Carmel
