  • Wow Nancy, it is great to get back that far.

I think the best option is to contact Cavan Genealogy at cavangenealogy@eircom.net

and look up the resources online at Cavan library at http://www.cavanlibrary.ie/Default.aspx?StructureID_str=42

I hope you will get help there.  Please let me know how you got on.

  • Hi Nancy:

I just found this site, so I hope you check it occasionally.  Miles Riley, Brother of Garrett Riley is my 10th g grandfather. He came to America in 1635 with his brother Garrett on the ship "Boneventure" to Maryland. I have the family info from there on if you are interested.  Some genealogist also report a brother, Thomas, who came to America a little later, but I have been unable to prove he is of the same family. (Mostly because I haven't tried). Garrett and Miles' father was Ferral O'Riley, Died about 1660 in Ireland, Ferral's father was Falidh O'Riley, His father was Ferrall O'Riley, and his father was Miles O'Riley. Miles father was Falidh O'Riley, and his father was Domhnall Ban O'Riley. I have documented resources for this information. Miles stayed in the U.S. , but Garrett sold his holdings in U.S. And returned to Ireland.  He is shown in Griffiths Land Valuation as owning a home in Kells in 1655 and 1665. I am currently looking for any relatives that still may be there.  If you can get a copy, of "The Colonial Riley's of Tidewater County", it is a wealth of information. It is out of print, but a library may have a copy. My family has a copy.
