  • Hi Calvin

Can you provide an approximate birth year for Joseph & / or a place in the UK he came to?

  • For those interested in the CAFFREY name, Patrick CAFFREY was a sponsor at the baptism of my grandfather, James Charles DUFF on 22nd August 1863 in the Parish of Cavan. My great-grandfather, Patrick DUFF (c1808-1886) was Quartermaster in the Cavan Militia and Patrick CAFFREY was a benefactor to the Militia.

The Cavan Militia was disembodied in August 1856. Two months later a presentation was made "...to Mr Patrick Caffrey in grateful remembrance of his disinterested assistance during the embodiment of the regiment in 1855 and 1856." He was presented with a massive silver teapot! My great-grandfather, Patrick Duff, was a member of the deputation.

  • Hi,

Could Patrick Caffrey be a relative of James Francis Caffrey of Cavan? James Francis Caffrey is listed as my third Great Grandfather, his second wife was Mary, he was the father of John J Caffrey who was an officer in New Jersey. James Francis Caffrey is as far as my tree goes back because he and his son John J Caffrey were estranged. I know John J Caffrey was the only son of James Francis Caffrey and an unknown woman who died in childbirth. She was also thought to be from Cavan. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have hit a dead end. Thanks!
