Dear Kathie,
I am unsure if I can help you, but I will try. I did not know where Newton was, I looked up the Tithe Applotments books on www.nationalarchives.ie & if I am correct, it is in the parish of Denn. There are Methodist church records in PRONI (the Northern Ireland records office) please see this link www.proni.gov.uk/guide_to_church_records.pdf on page 37 it lists what details they have there. Hopefull some of this may assist you.

I was wondering was Anthony Irwin a clergyman, as I seen a faint remark in the tithe applotments http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587461/00…, under the firstline which read Archdeacon Irwin, this parish Kilsherdany is outside the town of Cootehill, hopefully this may be useful to you. Thanks so much, Carmel. Since Anthony's son, Ambrose, was a clergyman in America, it's a good possibility that Anthony was a clergyman also.
