  • Dear Kathie,

I am unsure if I can help you, but I will try.  I did not know where Newton was,  I looked up the Tithe Applotments books on www.nationalarchives.ie & if I am correct, it is in the parish of Denn.  There are  Methodist church records in PRONI (the Northern Ireland records office) please see this link www.proni.gov.uk/guide_to_church_records.pdf on page 37 it lists what details they have there.  Hopefull some of this may assist you.

    Best Wishes Carmel O'Callaghan

  • Dear Kathie,

I was wondering was Anthony Irwin a clergyman, as I seen a faint remark in the tithe applotments http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587461/00…, under the firstline which read Archdeacon Irwin, this parish  Kilsherdany is outside the town of Cootehill, hopefully this may be useful to you.  Regards Carmel

  • Thanks so much, Carmel.  Since Anthony's son, Ambrose, was a clergyman in America, it's a good possibility that Anthony was a clergyman also.

I will follow up on these leads.  I appreciate your help.  Best wishes for the new year.  Kathie
