Looking for any information on Henry Goodfellow (b. abt 1812) who was married abt 1834 to Marjorie Finlay (b. abt 1816). They lived in Townland of Gortnaleck, Parish of Templeport, Co Cavan. Henry was described as a farmer. Children: Susanna, b.1835; Lilly b. 1837, Mary Jane, b. 1838, and (probably) Francis b. 1854 and James b 1856. There may have been others. Marjorie nee Finlay was related to the Findlays of Bawnboy (Dean John Finlay of Bawnboy murdered in 1921 was referred to by Mary Jane Farrelly nee Goodfellow, as "Cousin Finlay").
The Goodfellow family belonged to Church of Ireland. Susanna married David Gibson 1858; Lilly married Blakely Huggins, 1835; and Mary Jane married James Farrelly 1855 - all in Templeport. James and Mary Jane and four children emigrated to New Zealand in 1874. Henry, Marjorie, Francis and James; Susanna, Lilly and families all emigrated to the USA in the 1860s (at different times I think).
I know nothing about Henry or Marjorie's parentage or siblings and would welcome any information or suggestions as to where to search..

Hi thanks for your message and interest in Ireland Reaching Out.
Have you tried looking for record of the Goodfellow family in the Irish land records? There are two sets of land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th Century. These act as good census substitutes as there is no census record prior to 1901 in Ireland. The first are called the Tithe Applotment Books and they date from 1823 to 1838. You can search the Applotment Books here:
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
The second is the Griffith's Valuation, dating from 1848 to 1864, and it can be found here:

Church of Ireland parish registers for the period up to 1870-are public records. Registers are available for about one third of the parishes, however many were destroyed in the Public Records Office in Dublin in 1922. Most are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. A list of all surviving registers is available in the National Archives. http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
Some other websites which may be helpful to you in your search for information are the National Library and the National Archives of Ireland websites found at http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ respectively.
Also of interest to you may be the Irish Newspapers Archives. Here you can do a search for the Bawnboy murder. You can browse through the newspaper archives for free, however to look at the actual articles you will have to pay a fee. Here is the link for the website: http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/
I hope these links are of some help to your research.
Kind regards,
