I know my Great Grandfather Marcus Michael Curry (we have also been told that he reversed his names when he became a Protestant so it might have been Michael Marcus) was born in or around Blacklion in 1841. His parents I am told died during his childhood, and he was raised by Jesuit priests and eventually became one (he later left the preisthood and came to North America where he became a Methodist Minister). I am wondering if there are records that were kept by the Jesuits, or about orphaned children that might help me get more information on my family.

  • Blacklion is in the townland of Tuam which in turn is in the RC parish of Killinagh. Unfortunately it appears that their earliest baptism records don?t start till 1860. Too late for Marcus Michael.

    You could try contacting the Jesuit Archives in Ireland regarding his trainign as a priest, and any other information they might hold:
