I am looking for any information on the William Neill (1840) Eiliza (abt1846) family. I don't have much to go on. I do know(think) that Ballyconnell,County Cavan,Ireland was were the family came from. They had a Mary(1862), William G (1846), James(1865)and a George(1868).All the children came to the US. Would like any infromation that you might fine.Thanks.

    There?s a possible match in the civil indexes that might fit the information you have given. A William Neil appears to have married Eliza Best, marriage registered Cavan town 1861 Vol 3, page 568. You can order a photocopy of that from GRO Roscommon, It should cost 4 euros. http://www.groireland.ie/

     

    If correct, the certificate will give you townlands and other information to develop the research further.

    Following my Antrim colleague's lead, I looked at www.familysearch.org and found baptismal index records for George and James sons of William Neill and Eliza Best. Also, found the civil birth index record for James (bottom of message) in the Bawnboy registration district. Did not locate any info for young William. If you want a copy of the James birth record, you can write to the GRO www.groireland.ie fill out their form and provide the year, registration district (Bawnboy) and the volume and page number (18 49e). Cost 4 euros.

    I normally provide my credit card number when I mail the form to the GRO. I have probably done this 20 times with no issues. They charge you the dollar equivalent to 4 euros. There is usually a small foreign exchange fee also.
