Thanks again for your message.
I did a search and could find no Maghery in Clare. However, there is a Maghera townland in the Barony of Bunratty, which belongs to the civil parish of Clooney.
It may be a good idea to also post this message on that parish page.
I did a search in the Tithe Applotment Books for James and John. These are land records that were compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland. I found record of James Corbett in Clooney parish, listed with a James McMahon. I could not find record of a John McMahon however.
There is also record of James Corbett in the later Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864)
and a John McMahon:
(There is also still a record of James McMahon in Maghera in this land record: http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&Submit.x=31&Submit.y=21&Submit=Submit&familyname=McMahon&firstname=james&baronyname=&countyname=CLARE&unionname=&parishname=CLOONEY )
You could try searching for information in church records in Clooney. As I mentioned in my earlier response to you, most Catholic records are held locally so you may want to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. To see what records are available in Clooney/Quin Catholic parish follow this link:
Once again, for information on Church of Ireland records check:
You could also try contacting the Clare County library for some advice or assistance as they have a very good local studies department. http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/library/local-studies/locstudi1.htm
Alternatively you could contact Clare Heritage Centre for assistance- a fee may apply.
