The 1821-1851 census returns were almost destroyed in a fire, the 1861-1891 census returns were destroyed by the Government. The 1901-1911 census returns are available on line free of charge on line on the National Archives of Ireland website.


Carran Parish and its History

Carran village is bounded on the northwest by County Galway, and on the south by Kilinaboy, Slieve Carron, one of the highest points in the Burren lies just north of the village. Carron is renowned for its walking trails and spectacular views over the Burren

It is the birthplace of the co-founder of the Gaelic Athletic Association, Michael Cusack.
