  • Hi Cathy

I assume you are aware of the Murray_Mayland tree on ancestry.com which has quite a bit of info

    http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/17172734/person/471508722

    tree owner is 08smm Queensland

Thomas Haren is listed in the 1901 & 1911 Irish Censuses (free online) with his family in Letterkelly Cloonanaha Clare

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?searchMoreVisible=false&census_year=1901&surname=Haren&firstname=&county19011911=&county1821=&county1831=&county1841=&county1851=&parish=&ward=&barony=&townland=&houseNumber=&de

The tree has both parents born 1819 - John in Letterkelly & Hanora in Clare but I couldn't find either record on www.rootsireland.ie/ or any of the children's births except Anne HARAN 1854 in SCARIFF RC parish; Inagh and Milltown are not in the list of parsihes which accomapny the record.

The tree has Patrick dying at Enniskillen March 1919 aged 84

Griffiths Valuation 1848-64 (free online) has 15 Harens in Clare including 2 Johns. Some Harens are in Inagh but no Johns are there.

The Tithe Applotments 1823-37 also free have 19 Harens in Clare but no Johns (too young?) & no Inagh or Milltown in the parish list

If none of the other volunteers can help you further you might want to try the Clare Genealogy Centre

  • Hello Cathy,

I am also descended from a Harhen family of Letterkelly and live in Brisbane Australia.

My Michael Harhen (Haren) came from Letterkelly and at least had one brother James,  their parents  were Thomas & Bridget O’Connell. Michael arrived Australia about 1885.  Michael had a family of four daughters, one was my grandmother.

I have not been able to locate my 'Michael Harhen' birth but it was before 1872, he died in Australia in 1898. I know that his brother James also came to Australia and was here when Michael died. I have found James' birth date, James died in North Qld in 1929.

I have also made contact with another group of  Harens who came to Australia in 1880s from Letterkelly their parents were Timothy Haren & Mary Hehir, the oldest son Patrick (who came here with his brothers Terence, Michael & James) was born in 1856 we think. I have yet to find the link between my group and theirs, but there must be given the location and the christian names used. (You may already be aware of this group).

Hope this makes sense.  It would be good to establish the link between these Harhen/Haren familes in Letterkelly.

    Regards

    Michael
