My great-grandfather Thomas Gleason (Gleeson) was born in County Clare and emigrated to Kansas City, Missouri, where he owned four taverns. His death certificate lists his parents as John Gleeson and Mary Ellen Hurley. I did find a birth of Thomas Gleeson in Crusheen, Clare, Ireland, on 29 Nov. 1865, to John Gleeson and Ellen Hurley. Because I had a birth date of 1870, I am trying to confirm this as his true birth record. He had two brothers who also died in Kansas City, Martin b. 1880 and Michael b. 1869, and possibly a third, Patrick b. 1871. I would love any information available.

  • Dear Al:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.

Have you checked the FamilySearch website?  (www.familysearch.org).  I note that there appear to be 3 children born to a John Gleeson & Ellen Hurley in Crusheen.  They are listed as follows:

    1.  Thomas 29 November 1865

    2.  John 19 April 1864

    3.  Patt 7 August 1869.

Have you had a look at the Clare Library website?  The link is http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare//genealogy/genealog.htm.  You will find the Griffith's Valuation, a census substitute from 1855 on the site together with links for the 1901 Census.  They may assist you with regard to the Gleeson family.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.  You can email me at:  tulla@irelandxo.com

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
